Hermann Armin Kern (Hungarian 1838-1912)

Hermann Kern, also known as Hermann Armin von Kern, was born in 1838 in the Hungarian Liptoujvar.  In 1852 he took first drawing lessons in Prague.  In the Mid-1850's he began to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Carl Rahl.  In 1867 he received a scholarship for the Academy in Düsseldorf and in 1870 he went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he studied with Carl Theodor von Piloty.  In the late 1880s, he finally settled in Vienna.
