John Steuart Curry, Wisconsin Twilight, 1934
Mixed Media, 29 x 36 1/2 in. (73.7 x 93 cm)
Mixed Media including Graphite, Charcoal, and Pastel on Wove Paper
The title "Wisconsin Twilight was found on a Percival Galleries sticker and is apparently the title by which the work was sold and purchased. When the gallery offered it through correspondence, it was referred to simply as "a Wisconsin landscape" done in 1934. Both the agrarian/rural subject and its handling are very typical of a great many sketches, drawings and studies for murals and paintings that currently circulate in the artist's market. As one of the three American "Regionalists" with a widespread reputation for his Associated American Artists-published lithographs, murals and magazine illustrations, Curry is still considered a very desirable and collectible artist.
