Trusted Fine Art Expertise Across Generations
Founded in 2000, the Kodner Gallery Art Therapy Program was created in partnership with Ranken Jordan Pediatric Specialty Hospital, a nationally recognized leader in pediatric rehabilitation and long-term transitional care. The program was initiated by the Kodner family to bring the healing and expressive benefits of art directly to children and young adults facing complex medical challenges.
For more than two decades, the program provided hands-on creative experiences designed to foster emotional expression, confidence, relaxation, and joy during extended rehabilitation. The initiative aligned closely with Ranken Jordan’s philosophy of “care beyond the bedside,” supporting patients not only through medical care, but also through meaningful emotional and developmental enrichment.
Due to its lasting impact and continued success, the program has since been adopted and expanded by The Bayer Foundation, allowing it to grow with additional resources and serve even more children and families. Kodner Gallery remains proud to have established the original program and grateful to have contributed to its legacy of healing through art in the St. Louis community.
- For nearly twenty years, Kodner Gallery has produced Trash or Treasure™, a beloved Antiques Roadshow–style community event. This popular program invites guests to bring family artworks, heirlooms, and objects of interest for informal discussion and evaluation with the Kodner family and a panel of invited specialists.
At each Trash or Treasure™ event, participants are encouraged to bring paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, decorative objects, and other items for review. While the program does not provide appraisals, it offers valuable insights into history, attribution, artistic significance, market relevance, and preservation considerations. The goal is to educate, inform, and inspire curiosity about the stories behind the objects people treasure.
Over the years, Trash or Treasure™ has been presented in partnership with numerous organizations, including:
- The Nine Network (PBS St. Louis)
- Saint Louis Science Center
- Regional museums and historical societies
- Local nonprofit and cultural institutions
These events support outreach, fundraising, and public education, and have become highly anticipated and well-attended community traditions.
If an institution, nonprofit, or community organization is interested in hosting a future Trash or Treasure™ event, we invite them to contact the gallery for more information.
Kodner Gallery has a long history of supporting cultural and charitable organizations throughout the region. Members of the gallery have been active with groups such as:
- The Young Friends of the Saint Louis Art Museum
- The Collections Advisory Committee of the Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri–St. Louis
- The Arts and Education Council
- The Missouri Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association
Through event collaborations, advisory roles, and ongoing support, we are proud to contribute to organizations that promote culture, education, and quality of life in our community.
