Alan "Bud" Lewin
Alan "Bud" Lewin
American, 1908 - 2005
Alan "Bud" Lewin was a Missouri sculptor who worked primarily in bronze, based in St. Louis for much of his career. He is best known for a body of abstracted figurative sculpture — attenuated, gesturally simplified human forms, often set on stone or travertine plinths — that reflects the mid-century era's broader move toward reductive, expressive figuration. Lewin worked largely outside the gallery-and-museum circuit, producing sculpture for private and regional collectors rather than building a public exhibition record, and his pieces remain relatively scarce on the market today. Signed simply "Lewin," his work continues to surface in St. Louis-area estates and private collections, valued for its quiet modernist economy of form.
