BiographyGottfried Arnegger (Austrian, b. 1905, Vienna)

Gottfried Arnegger was the son and pupil of Alois Arnegger (1879–1967), and worked in Vienna as a landscape painter. The elder Arnegger had trained at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Robert Russ and August Eisenmenger, and from the 1920s turned decisively toward the Italian coast — Naples, Capri, San Remo. Gottfried inherited both the subject and the method, and spent his career refining a single territory: the terraced villa above the Mediterranean, seen in full afternoon light.

His work is held in private collections in Europe and the United States.
