Edition 3/5

A boldly conceived and masterfully fabricated sculpture, Peace exemplifies Heloise Crista's command of metal as both material and metaphor. Sweeping arcs of brass and copper sheet interlock in a dynamic, centrifugal composition that suggests simultaneous motion and resolution — the warm gold of the brass and the deeper reddish tones of the copper playing against one another with striking visual tension.
Crista joined the Taliesin Fellowship in 1949, drawn not to architecture but to the atmosphere of ideas and community surrounding Frank Lloyd Wright and his circle. Her sculptural career was sparked at Taliesin, where her first major work — a bronze bust of Wright completed in 1956 — remains on permanent display in the Garden Room at Taliesin West. She taught sculpture classes at Taliesin through the 1970s and 1980s, and her works were incorporated throughout the Taliesin West campus as well as buildings designed by Taliesin Associated Architects. Described by the Library of Congress as one of Wright's best apprentices, Crista became an acclaimed sculptor whose work remains an indelible part of the Taliesin legacy. Peace carries exceptional provenance: accompanied by an artist-signed Certification Notice on Taliesin Architects letterhead, dated May 25, 1992, confirming this as edition 3/5, originally created in 1987. A personal letter from Crista to the original St. Louis purchasers accompanies the work as well, signed by the sculptor. From an important private St. Louis collection.
