Fused and Molded Glass Threads
11 3/8 x 13 x 14 in. (28.9 x 33.0 x 35.6 cm)
Toots Zynsky is among the most technically innovative and visually distinctive artists working in glass today, and Bellezza Mizimah is a magnificent example of her signature filet-de-verre technique — a process she pioneered in which thousands of fine glass threads are fused together and then slumped into organic, free-form vessels of extraordinary delicacy. This large and commanding work shimmers in warm golds, ambers, and chartreuse, the undulating rim and softly folded walls evoking the fluidity of silk or the natural forms of a flower or shell. The surface texture — so fine as to appear almost woven — catches light in constantly shifting ways, making the piece a living presence in any environment. Represented in major museum collections worldwide, Zynsky's work occupies a singular position at the intersection of fine art, craft, and material innovation. In correspondence with the gallery, the artist herself noted that this piece was among her favorites from the series and one of the most unique — a distinction that sets Bellezza Mizimah apart even within her celebrated body of work.
